December 1, 2011 - Washington, DC - Bristling with top brass and good will, the black-tie Centennial of Naval Aviation Commemorative Gala celebrates an incredible 100 years of U.S. naval aviation Thursday at the National Building Museum. On hand for the flyer’s fete: Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta; U.S. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus; Adm. Robert J. Papp Jr., commandant, U.S. Coast Guard; Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, assistant commandant, U.S. Marine Corps; Adm. James A. Winnefeld Jr., vice chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff;Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert, chief of Naval Operations; Capt. Christopher J. Ferguson, commander of the final NASA space shuttle flight; and Capt. Jim DiMatteo, president of the 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation Foundation.

Celebrations Include Wreath Laying Ceremony and GALA
November 30, 2011, Washington, DC -- The 2011 Centennial of Naval Aviation has been celebrated across the country throughout the course of the year paying tribute to the amazing progress and achievements of the United States Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Aviation. At the closing of the Centennial year, on December 1, men and women who have shaped the legacy of Naval Aviation over the past century will assemble in Washington, D.C. for a culmination of celebratory events. These Centennial events will reflect on the achievements of the past while embracing the possibilities of the future of United States Naval Aviation.
A public wreath laying ceremony honoring a century of mission-ready men and women who have served in the United States Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard will take place on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the United States Navy Memorial. Vice Admiral Allen G. Myers IV, Commander, Naval Air Forces; Vice Admiral John P. Currier, Deputy Commandant for Mission Support, U.S. Coast Guard; and Lieutenant General Terry G. Robling, Deputy Commandant for Aviation, U.S. Marine Corps will co-host this ceremonial event honoring all in Naval Aviation who have paid the ultimate price for their country.

Centennial Closing Ceremonies Scheduled for Washington, D.C.
August 18, 2011 – Washington, DC – 2011 marks the 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation. This momentous anniversary is being celebrated across the country throughout the course of the year by paying tribute to the amazing progress and achievements of United States Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Aviation. In recognition of the enormous contributions made by all elements of Naval Aviation, the 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation Foundation will independently support the year-long celebration by working to generate national awareness of this historic milestone and producing the official Centennial Kick-Off and Closing Events.

100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation Foundation Hosts Gala in San Diego, CA to Commence Year-Long Celebration
Sold Out Event Marks Beginning of National Celebration in Honor of the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard’s Centennial of Flight
San Diego, CA, February 11, 2011 – The 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation Foundation is pleased to announce that a year-long celebration in honor of the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard’s 100th anniversary of flight will commence this weekend. The Centennial of Naval Aviation Kick-Off Gala, on Saturday, February 12, 2011, is part of the weekend-long celebration in San Diego, CA which will initiate a year-long celebration across the United States. The sold out gala will take place onboard the USS Midway Museum in San Diego, CA. Known as the “Birthplace of Naval Aviation,” the San Diego Bay is where the first flight of a naval aircraft, a Curtiss Wright seaplane built by Glenn Curtiss, took place in 1911.

100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation Foundation Board Announced
Celebrating 100 Years of U.S. Naval Aviation Progress and Achievement
San Diego, CA (December 14, 2010): The 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation Foundation has announced its Board of Directors for the 2011 Centennial events. The Foundation is comprised of a volunteer Board Co-Chaired by Major General Bob Butcher, USMC (Ret) and Rear Admiral John “Mac” McLaughlin, USN (Ret). Captain Jim DiMatteo, USN serves as Foundation President and Katie Everhart serves as the Executive Director. Board Members include Willis Allen, Jr., Jason Brustkern, Reo Carr, Pat Connors, Shelly Hall, John Hawkins, Phil Jelsma, Mary King, Scott Mednick, Mitch Mulanix, Ari Petersen, Patti Roscoe and Larry Scott.
